UPSC ESE Eligibility Criteria: Age Limit

Similar to other national-level competitions, the eligibility criteria for UPSC IES age limit restrictions vary based on the applicant’s category.

 

The minimum age requirement for all applicants is 21 years, and the maximum age limit should not exceed 30 years as of 1st January 2023.

 

The candidate’s birthdate should fall between 2nd January 1993 and 1st January 2002.

 

However, the upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe categories and up to 3 years for OBC candidates. 

 

Additionally, government servants may receive an age relaxation of up to five years if employed under specific departments, while candidates in continuous temporary service may get three years of age relaxation.

 

Physically challenged candidates, including the blind, deaf-mute, and others, may receive age relaxation of up to 10 years based on UPSC ESE eligibility criteria 2023.

 

 

UPSC ESE Eligibility Criteria: Educational Qualifications

The UPSC Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is a national-level competitive exam that requires candidates to fulfill specific eligibility criteria, including educational qualifications.

 

To be eligible for the UPSC ESE exam, a candidate must hold an Engineering degree from a recognized University or Institution. 

 

Candidates who are in their final year of Engineering studies may also apply, provided that they submit proof of ing the degree exam before the specified date.

 

Additionally, candidates with M.Sc degree in Electronics, Wireless Communications, Radio Physics, Radio Engineering, or equivalent may also be eligible for certain engineering services. 

 

 

UPSC ESE Eligibility Criteria: Nationality

Along with UPSC IES age limit, nationality is another crucial eligibility criterion for the UPSC Engineering Services Examination (ESE). To apply for the UPSC ESE exam, a candidate must be either:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962, with the intention of settling in India permanently.

 

Candidates belonging to the second, third, or fourth categories above must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

 

Additionally, candidates of Indian origin who have migrated from countries such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam, intending to settle in India permanently, are also eligible to apply for the UPSC ESE exam, provided that they possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

 


UPSC ESE Eligibility Criteria: Application Fee

To complete the application process for the UPSC Engineering Services Examination (ESE), candidates are required to pay an application fee.

 

The application fee for the UPSC ESE exam is Rs. 200 for candidates belonging to the General and OBC categories.

 

However, candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and female categories are exempted from paying the application fee.

 

It is essential to note that the application fee must be paid online using a credit/debit card or through net banking.

 

Candidates must ensure that they complete the payment process within the stipulated time, failing which their application may be rejected.

 

Additionally, candidates who successfully submit their application form can an e-receipt of the application fee payment for future reference.

 

 

UPSC ESE Eligibility Criteria- Examination Pattern

The UPSC Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is conducted in three stages:

  • Preliminary Examination: The preliminary exam consists of two objective-type papers with a total of 500 marks. The duration of each paper is two hours. Paper-I consists of questions from General Studies and Engineering Aptitude, while Paper-II focuses on engineering discipline-specific questions.
  • Main Examination: Candidates who qualify the preliminary exam are eligible to appear for the main examination. The main exam consists of two conventional-type papers in the respective engineering discipline, each carrying 300 marks. The duration of each paper is three hours.
  • Personality Test: Candidates who qualify for the main examination are called for a personality test, which is conducted for 200 marks.
